Will outside motion sensor/detector floodlights be effective from a second floor mounting?

Simple question here, but I can't seem to find a simple answer anywhere online. I'm considering changing my regular outside floodlights to the motion sensor/detector type. We live in a two story house, and the one covering the backyard is mounted next to a second story window. This is actually quite high -- probably 20 feet or more. Will a motion sensor work effectively from this height? Or do I need to consider a new receptacle placed lower down?
