The commonly asked trailer question Straight VS Slant?
What are your guys opinions on Slant and straight load trailer?
I have to haul a 16hh QH horse in the heat (over about 90 degrees) 6hrs this summer to bring him home (don't worry he will have plenty of air and a water break/rest every 2hrs). I will be renting a trailer (they are nice trailers) and I have the option of a 2 horse slant Sundowner, or a 2 horse straight load (not sure of brand).
In your opinion which type of trailer is better for long rides?
BTW we will be on the highway most of the way.
Thanks that's very helpful, no we wont be taking the horse out of the trailer every 2hr, I meant we will stop and offer him water and a chance to rest without the vehicular moving but he will stay inside the trailer.
I am the decenter here. I have access to both a slant load and a straight load. My horse is fairly large (over 16-2). I think my horse is much happier in the straight load. When I have moved horses in a stock trailer, they do then to ride at a slant, but it is always facing backwards. That way when the brakes are applied they can lean into the wall with their butt. In a slant load trailer if you apply the brakes the horse has nothing to brace against, except its head. My horse also seems awfully cramped up in the slant load due to his size. In the straight load he has much more freedom with his head, and his nose is never up against the wall. If I were choosing between the two I would choose straight load.
