Way Home Automation
What is the cheapest way to trigger a kick drum?
Whats the cheapest (decent) brain and trigger I can use for my home recording studio? I record a lot of death metal and I'm sick of automation leveling..
The brain I can't help you with. Those are expensive anywhere you go.
The trigger you can build yourself if you know how to do simple soldering. You need a piezo transducer, a wire, and a 1/4" jack. Remove the transducer from it's shell, solder it to the wire, solder the wire to the jack. VOILA! Homemade midi trigger.
Repeat the process for every other drum and you've got yourself a homemade electric drumkit.

NJ Lighting Home Automation Helps Reduce Carbon Emissions & Utility Costs
New York’s growing concern with green New Jersey living, coupled with increased financial woes, have led homeowners and commercial property owners to become more and more concerned with how to decrease monthly electricity bills. A surprisingly easy way to conserve energy—and therefore save money—is to install an automated lighting system.
A full-service New Jersey IT provider, Uptime (www.uptimeus.com) is familiar with all of the home automation items on the market from the most complex to the simplest automated lighting systems. For example, dimmers, already commonplace in our homes and businesses, are a simple automated solution that can give business owners more control of their energy output. To reap maximum energy savings, however, many businesses and homeowners are using integrated lighting systems in New Jersey to set a timer to camouflage an empty home for security and energy-saving purposes. More sophisticated lighting systems can up the ante by offering timed control of all lights across the property and take times of day like sunrise and sunset into account along with periods of occupation for your location.
Other automated options include: turning all lights off when you’re away during the day or after business hours, turning most lights off during the evening when you’re out except for key lights to simulate an occupied look—or even randomly turning lights on and off in different rooms. You can even design a system in which the lights flash to signal the doorbell or the phone ringing…. Or even an intruder.
Many people assume a home renovation contractor is the ideal professional to design and install an automated lighting system. While a home renovation professional can certainly steer you toward the best fixtures and bulbs like CFLs and LEDs for energy reduction, it is the IT professional who designs and maintains the network, which runs the automation. Further, integrating your NJ home automation with your IT expenditures can create a fully automated home of the future. In fact, the most sophisticated automated lighting systems can be monitored and controlled remotely—allowing you to alter the program based on fluctuations in your daily schedule. An IT company can also integrate lighting automation into other automated features at your home or business such as a security system, temperature control, or entertainment or presentation equipment (i.e. state-of the-art LCD TVs).
But how does automating lighting qualify as a green building practice? The answer is controlled resources. And using these techniques are becoming attractive not only to businesses and homeowners looking to lock down savings, but to developers hoping to improve their LEED ratings on new constructions. In fact, with current legislation going green, meeting LEED point requirements will soon be mandatory for new developers.
The good news is that investing in these technologies now can save you thousands for the lifetime of your property, which just makes good economic sense for homeowners and businesses alike.
